Every morning, I open my eyes to the sun rising above the Sandia mountains. I walk my dogs across the escarpment, following the trails of lizards and kangaroo rats. I’ve lived on the Westside of Albuquerque on and off for the better part of 60 years. In the early 1970s, the land was more more-than-human world than human-built. Today there is very little left of the more-than-human environment. Living squarely within the climate catastrophe, what can humans do to repair the damage we have caused?”
108 Variations
108 Variations is a collection of oil-stick paintings started in 2025. Each painting begins as a color field of turquoise, indigo, lime, and green umber blended by finger tips. Woven grids, concentric circles, and dappled spots in pink and red, light cadmium and Véronèse green sit on top of these miasmic grounds, representing the joy and possibility needed to counter despair.
